Dear Taber EFC family, Last weekend, Carolyn and I did something we don’t do too often – went out to see a movie at a local theatre here in Calgary. The movie, Jesus Revolution, featured Kelsey Grammar as Chuck Smith, who became well-known for his leadership of the Calvary Chapel churches. What was fascinating about the movie is how a spiritual movement toward the Gospel began among the hippies of California in our own more youthful time of the 1970’s. It’s an example of how a spiritual revival began during a restless time in American history which resulted in the conversion of many and the substantial growth of the church. And the question we’ve been asking ourselves is whether such a thing can happen again? It certainly is a great need, and of course, we believe it can! In the restless atmosphere of our own times, may we continue to pray and trust God for the kind of spiritual breakthrough that will bring about a new movement of repentance and faith in the Gospel. Meanwhile, may we who have come to know the blessing of the Gospel continue to be faithful to its message. Carolyn and I are looking forward to driving down on Friday (weather permitting) to be with you for various ministry events this weekend. There is the women’s Spring Brunch on Saturday at 10. Sunday’s worship service at 10:30 surrounds the message theme, God’s Awesome Plan, based on Ephesians 1:1-14. Marty Senneker and team will be leading worship and during the message, kids will be dismissed to share in a special time of learning. Another blessing of the morning will be the opportunity for fellowship over a potluck lunch. Everyone is encouraged to bring a main dish to share, salads and deserts are being provided by the church. Once again, this Sunday, we are asking you to consider wearing a name tag (with first and last names) so we all have the chance to get to know one another better. After the potluck, we are looking forward to the winter AGM of the congregation to which everyone is invited. It will include reports from ministry leaders and other updates. I look forward to sharing in this time with you and for the opportunity to answer any questions that members may have about this transition time. Please continue to pray for God’s leading throughout this time. The challenge of this Sunday will be to set our clocks ahead one-hour on Saturday night to be ready for the service and fellowship on Sunday. Hopefully, the time change won’t interfere too much with the opportunity for worship and fellowship otherwise this weekend. May it be an encouraging weekend in every way for all of us, Pastor Ed |
