Update from Pastor Ed
I was glad that Carolyn could come with me to Taber for the Service last weekend. Besides some good visits we explored the community a bit which also included a walk around the Taber Trout Pond. We were surprised to learn that “Rattlesnakes Live Here,” and that they were something to watch out for while walking around the pond. We were rather amused by the SSS warning to Stop, Scan, and Slither Away if we encountered a rattler! Thankfully, we didn’t see any, but the image brings to mind the biblical reference to Satan as that Old Serpent (Revelation 12:9) who tempted Eve and then Adam in the Garden of Eden to disobey God, plunging the whole world under God’s awful judgment! If you were at Taber EFC for the Service last Sunday, or heard it online, you will recall that we looked at the gruesomeness of sin’s consequence as expressed by the Preacher (probably Solomon) in Ecclesiastes. So much of life, climaxing in the reality of death, is meaningless because of God’s judgment due to sin. But thankfully, even as Ecclesiastes makes clear, death is not the end of the story! And in the message of the Worship Service this Sunday at 10:30, I want to demonstrate that there are Signs of Grace in the Book of Ecclesiastes that ultimately point us to the precious Gospel found in Jesus Christ. I hope you can join us for this Service when Marty Senneker and his team will lead us in Songs of Worship along this line, and in which we will also celebrate that Gospel in Communion. Following the Service, three will be an important Membership meeting when members will have the opportunity to vote on the proposed church Constitutional Amendments (or Revision) and proposed Bylaws. In presenting the proposed revision, the Elders Board believes that a simpler structure will enable the church to manage overall ministry more effectively. If the Amendment is passed, current leadership teams such as the Executive Board and Deacons Committee will continue to the end of the year, the duly appointed Nominating Committee (September) to nominate leaders to take office in the new structure at the beginning of 2024. Thankfully, the roof project appears to be nearing the end but, as you will hear on Sunday, at some additional cost! Thank you for any extra funds given at this time to cover this necessary expense. If you can, please join us for prayer at 9:00am this Sunday. Pray too for the Elders Board which is meeting for an extended time on Saturday to begin preparations for the pastoral search. Lord willing, I hope to see many of you in person this Sunday. Or, for those who are away, the Service will be available for participation online. Have a blessed weekend, Pastor Ed |
