Update from Pastor Ed
It seems it’s that time of year again (probably earlier than usual because of the dry weather) when many are engaged in gathering in the harvest. Depending on the yeild, the exercise might also be accompanied by varying emotions – from exhileration to some degree of angst! But in general, it’s an opportunity to reflect again on God’s faithfulness and provison. We remember His words of promise in the time of Noah: As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night will never cease (Genesis 8:22). Growing up on the farm in Manitoba, I remember harverst time as a very special time when neighbours gathered with their equipment (horses and hayracks!) to help gather in the harvest for the thresshing machine. From my young boy’s perpsective, the experience was always accompaneid by a sense of excitiement that included hard work, comraderie, and good food! I’m sure, that part of the haverst is still the same everywhere! In a sense, Taber EFC is also entering a harvest time. All year, we have been working toward the conclusion of this special transiton time which is to find the pastor of God’s choosing for the further future development of the church’s ministry. Soon a Search Team will be chosen to lead in exploring the possiblities and making a recommendation to the Elders Board and the church. In the meantime, ministry continues toward that harvest of which Jesus spoke when He said the fields are ripe for harvest (John 4:35). Plans are now forming for a ministry leaders fellowship event on Sunday evening, August 20th. (Stay tuned for more details.) The Elders Board is meeting on Tuesday, August 15th when they will consider candidates for the role of the Office Administrator and also the nominaiton of possible members to the Search Team as well as the Nominating Committee. And on Wednesday, August 16th at 7:00, there will be an Informational Meeting for members of the church to inform and answer questions about these processes. I look forward to being onsite again for the next ten days or so, starting this Sunday, August 13th. In the Worship Service at 10:30 this Sunday, Pastor Brett and team will lead in worship, Ben Dyck will help with hosting the service, and I plan to speak on Steps Toward Spiritual Maturity, based on Ephesians 4:1-16. And Ken Reinke will presnet a short story for children. As we observe and participate in the earth’s harvest at this time of year, may we we rejoice and be active partiipants also in the spiriutal harvest that God is bringing about through the church during this time. May God bless your part in the harvest at Taber EFC this week. |
