Update from Pastor Ed
Not long ago, Carolyn and I spent a couple of days in Edmonton with some of our family. One day we visited Fort Edmonton and stopped for some refreshment. In this photo, our granddaughter, Mavis (13 this Sunday) and me, are pretending to catch a falling can of pop! She knows better than me how to play the role—being much more authentic than me in posing for what appears to be a spill! It's a fake photo of a small disaster that didn’t really happen—the can nicely balancing in that position. Besides the physical phenomenon, it illustrates how it’s possible to give an impression that’s actually false! This practice has many applications, one being that it’s possible for us to go through life faking it—giving the impression that we are genuine, when in fact, we are not! According to the Bible, this is actually the nature of the human condition—trying to show we have it all together when in fact, we have fallen short of God’s perfect standard (Romans 3:23)—which is why we need to put our trust in Christ as Saviour. Sometimes, we Christians have this inclination as well. One of the problems with the Corinthian church, according to Paul’s first letter, is that they had an air of spirituality that wasn’t actually true—relying upon expressions of spiritual giftedness to create a positive impression. But in the 3rdchapter, Paul calls them out on it by telling them that their comparison with one another was really a reflection of spiritual immaturity. One of the great things about being a Christian is that we receive grace to be real/authentic—honest about our weaknesses and vulnerabilities, but also about our strengths including the gifts for ministry that God gives. In this Sunday’s Worship Service at 10:30, I look forward to speaking about Finding Your Spiritual Gift, from 1 Corithians 12:1-13 and other scriptures. Isaak and April Friesen will be leading worship and we’ll share in Communion together at the end of the Service. And we will have a special prayer for our new Office Administrator, Jenn Matthews. Her office hours (starting this Monday) will generally be 9:00 to 3:00 from Monday to Friday of each week. We are very thankfuil that she is willing to fill this role at this time. As the fall approaches, I hope many of you will experience joy in using the spiritual gift(s) that God has given you for ministry. This Sunday, after the Service, you will have the opportunity to fill out a card indicating where you would like to serve in ministry this fall. Looking forward to seeing many of you on Sunday, or to have you join us online… |

TEFC Scholarship Fund
The TEFC Scholarship is now open. The TEFC Scholarship fund has been established for the purpose of encouraging TEFC young people to pursue discipleship studies.
