Join Us To Worship GodSunday Morning Service @ 10:30am This week we will have Micah Motz as our speaker. This Sunday we will be back in the Gospel of John, looking at John 16:4b-15. This part of the chapter focuses on the Holy Spirit being sent to the followers of Jesus. It raises a question: Why did Jesus send the Spirit and what does He do? Micah will be looking at these questions and how the Gospel of John helps to give us answers to the purpose and work of the Holy Spirit. |
TEFC Summer Focus
This summer we will be highlighting our statement of faith. As we move forward in this time of transition as a church family it is important to be praying for the Lord to lead and direct us, it is also important to remember who we are as a church. One of the ways we do that is by being reminded of our theological convictions and the greater body that we are apart of. The Evangelical Free Church of Canada is an association of autonomous churches united in a common commitment to God’s evangel –the gospel of Jesus Christ, who died and rose again to give us eternal life. To God’s glory, the gospel is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes. Our essential theological convictions are vitally connected to this gospel STATEMENT 2: GOD’S GOSPEL IS AUTHORITATIVELY REVEALED IN THE SCRIPTURES. We believe that God has spoken in the Scriptures, both Old and New Testaments, through the words of human authors. As the verbally inspired Word of God, the Bible is without error in the original writings, the complete revelation of His will for salvation, and the ultimate authority by which every realm of human knowledge and endeavour should be judged. Therefore, it is to be believed in all that it teaches, obeyed in all that it requires, and trusted in all that it promises. The second statement in our statement of faith speaks about the word of God, its revelation, its purpose and its authority. As believers we can often treat the bible like any other book, it can become something that has been used for a purpose and then is simply placed back on the shelf or desk. In our comfortable north american lives, where so many of our needs can be provided by ourselves, it can be easy to forget about our great need for the word. In Ephesians 2 it says that we were "dead in our sins" but God being "rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ". This idea that Paul talks about is clearly not a physical reality, but a spiritual one. We are dead in our sins, but made alive in christ spiritualy. This is something we can't do by ourselves we needed Jesus to do it! But now what? Its important for all of us, no matter where we are at in our faith, that we need the word of God, we need its instruction, its revelation of God's plan, the encouragement and peace that can only come from the lord, and its guidence. The above statement makes clear our conviction that the word is perfect, without error, its complete in its revelation, and that its the ultimate authority. As believers we need to be people of the word and one of the ways we do that is my knowing its authority and by understanding the great need we have to know the things of the Lord. In knowing and recognizing this we become people that yearn to be in relationship with God, to know him more, to know his purposes and plans for us, to know the ways in which he wants us to live so we can glorify Him and be on mission with Jesus. The word is the source of life for us as believers, Christ has made us alive in him through his work on the cross, but the word is the sustaining food that we need spiritually to continue to be spiritually nourished and healthy. As a Church we hold strongly to the conviction that the word of God (the bible) is perfect, without error and complete for our every need and because of this it is essential for the lives of each believer. If you are looking to become more regular in your reading of scripture, we would encourage you to click on our bible reading plan below. You can also download the app called "Read Scripture" this app has reading plans to help keep you consistant in the reading of the word.
