Dear Taber EFC family, It’s been a few years since I had the opportunity to ‘hit the slopes’ for some skiing, but this winter I was able to acquire a cheap lift ticket (ask me why !) for several resorts in Alberta and BC. I don’t think I’ll get to them all, but any opportunity to do so feels like a gift in more ways than one. Like this week Thursday, when the weather and snow conditions seemed perfect for some timely recreation and fellowship with a good friend. For me, downhill skiing represents both commitment and risk—two characteristics of what it also means to be a Christian, or a disciple of Jesus. As in skiing, there’s nothing like the thrill of exercising faith in entrusting oneself to the love and care of our Creator while also committing to letting Him lead into unknown places. A slight variation on Eric Liddell’s famous saying might be, when I ski, I feel His pleasure! Living by faith and demonstrating what this is all about is the subject of Pastor Brett’s message from James 2:14-19 this Sunday. Lyndon and Naomi will be leading worship and, it being the first Sunday of the month, Kids Worship will begin right after the opening worship song and weekly update. If you have kids in kindergarten, or the primary grades of school, I’m sure they will enjoy the worship that Matt Reed leads them in, as well as the Bible lessons led by enthusiastic teachers. Pray for Chris and Tracy as they lead this important ministry to children at Taber EFC. I am looking forward to the AGM to be held a week from this Sunday after the worship service, which will also begin with some fellowship over a potluck meal. The great thing about potlucks is that you don’t know what delicious food you’ll enjoy ‘til you get there. For that Sunday, March 12th, each family only is being asked to bring a main dish because the church will supply the salads and deserts! The other great happening for the ladies next weekend, is the Spring Brunch event at 10 am at the church on Saturday, March 11th. Carolyn will be joining me on the weekend so that she can also be part of this event. I’m always amazed by all the ministries that are happening in and through the church and how many people are involved volunteering to serve in one way or another. It will be good to hear about these things at the congregational meeting,. As there is opportunity then, I too will share some thoughts on this transition time for the church. Please pray that we will know God’s will and blessing in all matters in these days of challenge and possibility. Enjoy the great weather heading into this weekend and—remember to Whom you belong!
